Whats coming

So this is the main character from my 24 hour comic. I inked this with the good ol staedlers. I've used the watercolor crayons for the color, they are alot of fun. Anyways things are happening with my comic. I have the whole thing thumbnailed out now, its gonna be a bit longer than I thought. 30ish pages. Watch out for it.

Playing with my new brushpen

Conan is one of my favs. Hes just been layed out, but hes gonna get him some.
This is a drawing of a character from the online comic northworld by Lars. This is the link you should all check it out http://www.north-world.com/pages/book1/chp1/bk01pg000.htm
More Wolverine action. I imagine that this is from that bryne Clarmont arc when wolverine is left for dead by the Hellfire Club. This is him getting back into the mansion to rescue the rest of the x-men if he were wearing his brown costume
Hulk is the strongest, watch out.

Come here Kitty Kat

So this is a drawing of Kitty Pryde of the X-Men I did the other day. Im a huge fan of the X-Men, specifically the John Byrne Chris Claremont X-Men run. Although everything from issue 96 to 240ish are pretty wicked in my book. Anyways the wheels kinda fell off after that and the x men were not very good for a long time. There was moments of greatness, Jim Lees run was all right and the morrison Quietly stuff rocked too. For the most part though X Men was almost impossible to read, really dense and confusing and very dark. Joss Whedeon and John Cassady's run on astonishing x men though is bringing back all these great old feeling that the old issues used to give me. THe two of them have brought back most of the classic team together and they really get the characters. They are really writing wicked excting x men stories that are very in tune with those old comics. Joss Whedon gets it and hes currently in this his last arc on the X Men really bringing Kitty back to the forefront. SO this is her in the new costume John Cassaday designed for her. I have her phasing through a really crappy floor here that I threw down really quick {trust me I really do know how to do a floor grid} essentially only bacause I ran out of room to draw her feet. Anyways hope you like it. I did the undersketch in a Tuscan red pencil which I also used for the 24 hour comic. I think it is now my pencil of choice, I think they are great to use and you should all try them out!

24 hour comic challenge

So I organized and took part in the 24 hour comic challenge this past saturday at noon to Sunday at noon at the Hairy Tarantula in Toronto. I did the worst I ever did in terms of quanity since Ive finished every previous attempt. This year I only finished 7 pages fully inked and left three other pages in only pencil. I didnt even make it through the entire night. I passed out at around 4 or 5am for about an hour. After I woke up I did a lil more work then gave up and called it a day around 9 in the morning. Im really pleased with how these 7 pages turned out. I Took around two hours on each of these pages. The seven pages that are all here are pretty much all the setup for the big final act which was going to be pretty action packed and hopefully a lil scary. Im pretty sure Im going to eventually finish this book since Im pretty happy with these first seven pages and I wouldnt want to leave you all hanging. Tell me what you think.

Belladone and Leave it to Chance

I've recently moved back to Toronto and have had access to the great comic stores around here, particularly at the Beguiling. I've been reading Paul Smiths excellent Leave it to Chance and sketched up this drawing of Chance seen at the top. Everyone should check it out. Paul Smith is well known for his 11 issue run on Uncanny Xmen in the early 80's. He is pretty sick. The second drawing here is from a comic from France called Belladone. Pierre Alery is the artist and has shoved his way into my top five fav artists for sure. He also has a blog spot site you should check out at http://pierrealary.blogspot.com/. Both these guys come from Animation backgrounds and it really comes out in all thier drawings. Anyways these are my versions of thier creations. I might ink em up and throw some color on em, we'll see

Wolverine and Enders Game

So this is all stuff from my sketch book. First off I was looking through my blog and was shocked to see I didnt have any xmen art up here. Growing up it was all about the Xmen and Ninja turtles. I started collecting around the start of the Fall of the Mutants storyline when Wolverine was still wearing this badass brown and yellow uniform. Of course at that point like everyone else Wolverine was my fav, I guess over the years you see so much of him and hes so overexposed he fell from that lofty top spot. Also theres some stuff that I did a couple months ago when reading the enders game series. Theres a lot of great ideas in that book that really bring a lot of great visuals into your mind. Anyways hope you like this junk

t-u-r-t-l-e POWER!!!!

So for the last while I've been putting together a portfolio for Mirage studios. This is one of the cover page drawings I have done for said portfolio. The ninja turtles were for me prolly my biggest early influence. I remember getting the how to draw T.M.N.T comic that Eastman and Laird put out when I was really young. I used to copy drawings out of it all the time. Anways this image is inspired by an early issue of the ninja turtles that most of the first movie was based on. In it the turtles are preparing for Christmas at Aprils and Leonardo goes out for a jog on New yorks rooftops. Anyways he is ambushed by the Foot clan and tears through them. The foot retreat and Leonardo follows and walks into a trap. He ends up getting his ass kicked by Shredder and the foot and delivered back to Aprils house through the window. Those first 20 issues of T.M.N.T were nuts. Anyways I actually did this one like nine months ago and I see a lot of problems with it now that I didnt at the time. I might post more pages of the portfolio later. I have two story pages that go along with this cover. Anyways Excelsior or whatever.

The Silver Surfer

So with Marvel gearing up for thier big Civil war event, {with the excellent planet hulk series already spinning out of that} theres another Marvel event coming up that isnt getting as much hype called Annihilation. Its gonna be a more cosmic cross over which is Teasing the return of the mighty Thanos, who Ive loved since Infinity Gauntlet. Anyways reading up on that got me wanting to do some galactic drawing. Anyways I did this Silver Surfer tonight who will definitly be a major player in this Cross over. Hope you like it
